Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Mastopexy – This procedure “lifts” the breast to a more youthful position.
The Procedure – Breast Lift
The Breast Lift procedure can help restore the contour of the breast to a more youthful, vivacious state. Such a “lift” may erase years from a woman’s figure by lifting the breast and removing the stretched out skin. A breast lift procedure is performed for women who would like to reduce the droopiness of the breast due to past pregnancies, weight loss, genetics and / or aging. The person may not only want to address the sagging of the breast, but also the shape and size by augmenting their breast with an implant during the same procedure. A mastopexy can also address the size of the areola (the pigmented areas around the nipple). You are encouraged to bring pictures of breasts whose shape you like – and that you don’t like to your consultation. Dr. Kulick will review these pictures with you and provide options that will address your specific request.
Generally, the incisions are placed around the areola and in the crease under the breast. Excess skin is removed from around the incisions and the nipple is usually repositioned higher. Depending on the size and shape, sometimes reducing the dark skin around the nipple, the areola, can leave the areolar tissue on the bottom side of the breast. The surgery is usually performed under a general anesthesia and patients are fitted with a special bra that is recommended by our office and usually worn for two to four weeks. Dr. Kulick may recommend an additional bra to aid in the final “shaping” of the breast.
After the Mastopexy Surgery
Generally during the first week you will wear a specially designed bra that is applied right after your surgery. You may be up and around within two or three days but you will be tender across your chest, especially if you received a breast augmentation at the same time. You will notice an immediate improvement in your breast position. Over time, your will swelling subside and your actual shape will become evident. Light activities can be resumed within a week or two. Most patients wait about 7-10 days before returning to work. You and Dr. Kulick will discuss this during your consultation and decide what is best for your situation. The results of the breast lift can accentuate feminine beauty, give you confidence and a fuller bust line. Post-operatively, your designated Patient Care Coordinator will call you regularly to answer your immediate questions and schedule your post-operative appointment with Dr. Kulick.
